2013 leaf dash lights and strange codes help.

That's not as bad as i was expecting and only a 38mV delta. Looks like about 10 low baller cells, but all of them below 3.90 as weak and holding down the pack. The problem is that the balancing current is only about 10mA, so it's nearly impossible to balance out a pack with only 10mV...

2013 leaf dash lights and strange codes help.

Get a battery cells chart for when the pack is depleted down to 20% or lower. That will show any weak cells spreading apart from the rest.

    PTC Heater brooken?

You could open the PDM to measure the voltage from the pack; there is a lid interlock that would need to be defeated. There is a jack-screw for the lid on the front flange to help break the seal.

    Level 1 charger question

Give it a try and measure the current--i doubt it is running at 16A when on 120vac supply. Manual says "up to 16A" on 240.

Nissaan dealer in San Jose wants $250 to look at my Leaf

If they are only charging $250 for an hours worth of service, then they would be going out of business slowly if not for subsidy from Nissan. The loaded overhead rate for an automobile service business is much higher than that--it was documented to be around $250 in San Jose 30 years ago in an...

2016 leaf 'batt temp bar level increased 2 bars

What was the ambient temperature when you attempted the Chademo Quick Charge? If it was a hot day outside, and the battery pack was already warm-to-hot from having driven a hundred miles at a high speed, then not much thermal margin existed to allow for QC. i use the scantool.net OBDLink LX...

Even the Tesla High Power Wall Charger with big fat wires can have thermal issues if the screw terminals are not secured:

2019 Leaf SL PDM not charging

Has it been kept fully charged during those 4 months? If a lead acid battery is left at less-than-fully charged it will suffer capacity loss due to sulfation of the plates. If you have checked and verified that the 12V is not a culprit, then the U-code may be due to rodent damage to the wiring...

2019 Leaf SL PDM not charging

The "Uxxxx" Trouble Codes are faults with the CAN Buss communications. The typical cause has been repeatedly found to be related to an old, weak or worn out 12V battery. If your car still has the original battery, then you have gotten your money's worth out of it--inspect, check and verify...

Help interpreting leafspy for a potential 2017

LaefSpy indicates that it has about 22kWh pack capacity remaining, so if a person can drive to get 4 miles per kwh that would be a range of 88 miles on the guessestimator. If you need 40 miles to do your daily round trip, then it would likely be a decent car for another 3 years, so $1k per...

Evaluating a candidate LEAF ... never a dull moment

My guess is that the "Replaced Battery" was the 12V Battery, not the HV Traction Pack. Water leaks are a pain but can be sealed. Inspect the repair work done for the minor damage at the rear to find clues. Get an OBDII dongle and LaefSpy app to see how the cells are balanced when the car is...

Had some codes that implied my battery was going...

i wouldn't assume that. When the EVSE is plugged in and charging, then the DCDC converter is also ON and charging the 12V battery.

T/M System Malfunction Problem I too have had this problem with my 2016 Leaf. I was miles from home at a chargng station and the towies wanted $250 to

"Step 1." in the FSM for troubleshooting nearly every DTC is the same: Check the condition of the 12V battery.

Had some codes that implied my battery was going...

i used a voltmeter that plugged into the cigarette lighter socket to measure the 12V battery charging voltage. Give it a try with the rear defrost that's a good idea.

Had some codes that implied my battery was going...

For Lead acid battery: If you unplug the connector for the current sensor on the battery, then it will be kept charged better (higher voltage for longer time). Another trick is to run the rear window wiper, for some reason the DCDC voltage is kept higher when the wiper is On. The charge...

Ac charger not charging, not diode problem.

The high power transistors are potted in black epoxy in the "waffle plate" mounted to the heat sink behind the power board. Sometimes the epoxy is released when transistor or diode blows. Unless it came out of a salvage yard wrecked car, then OBC units are likely to be damaged take-outs that...

    100 kW Charging

Check your window sticker to see if it calls out an optional High-Output Chademo Port (the 100kW version). Maybe it is an option that 62kwh + cars can add or get, but if not then they come with the standard 50kW port? The Chademo contactors in the PDM may have to be upgraded for the...

2011 LEAF pulling slightly to left under acceleration

If you can measure the bushing dimensions, e.g. OD, width, bolt hole size and spacer/sleeve width, etc. Then you can do a web search to find bushings. Some company had to make those and there are plenty out there. Nissan may not sell them, but other folks do. With the right press tool they...
